Repairs were successfully undertaken in Tahiti with the support of @tahiti_crew who coordinated the right trades to get the jobs done. If you are sailing to Tahiti, they are your guys! A big shout out to Stellio who went above and beyond to make the new tang for the forestay in record time, Sebastian of @tahitisails for mending the #3 and main, and to Sean and Peter @noakesgroup for coordinating the new forestay. Thank you all!!

So the great leg begins, Opua towards Ushuaia, some 5300 nautical miles.
Opua was the perfect place to finish our first leg, a work-up leg that allowed us to check systems and sort ourselves out.
Thanks to: Carvee and AB from the NZ Customs service, efficient and organised.
Monica and the team at Bay of Islands Marina, Opua. They were very helpful, we really enjoyed our stay, great place to berth.
Particular thanks to Matt of Marine Solutions Northland for his detective work, contortion skills and sage advice.
And to Roger at North Sails Opua, amazing work in a tight time frame, cheerfully delivered, thank you.
And a huge thanks to Mike and Kylie, both for encouraging us to come to Opua and also for all the help and advice, from that initial check out of Kialoa way back in 2016 (before we had been aboard) when Mike flew over to Lagos from Valencia, to this trip to Opua. A certain pleasing symmetry to starting out on this leg having been to visit Mike.
A big thanks to the crew as well: Ian, Jo, Paul, Linds, Tone, Gen, Grix and Cutts. Not possible to even contemplate the leg without their skills, enthusiasm and expertise.

A fond farewell to Kialoa II 👋Leaving Pittwater and heading down to Sydney Harbour to complete preparations for her long voyage to the Hamble via Cape Horn.

She will leave the CYCA approx 1100 Australia Day, we look forward to seeing you if you can pop down to say good bye or out on the harbour as she sails out ⛵️

🙌 We’re ready to race, Hobart here we come 🤜 Such an achievement to leave the dock this morning, we are down to 14 crew (due to various covid related reasons) entailing extra logistics and last minute paperwork. Great work Grunter on the provisioning👊

Final crew: Paddy, Keith, Lindsay, Grunter, Cutts, Dave, Harmo, Stuart, James, Paul, Jesse (last minute back-up) and brothers Aero, Mallee and Ek.
